'Young Lives at Risk: Our Overweight Children'

The Washington Post featured a comprehensive five-part series, "Young Lives at Risk: Our Overweight Children" from May 19-22, 2008. For the duration of the series, childhood obesity was Page 1 news. And that's just where it belongs. Visit their website at www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/health/childhoodobesity/index.html for interactive tools about healthy foods for kids, the impact of obesity on children's bodies, and much more!

Shasta FORWARD

Shasta FORWARD is a community-based project that will examine the growth of Shasta County over the next 20-30 years. Shasta FORWARD is an opportunity for collaboration among agencies, groups, and community residents. As a community resident you can provide your input by taking the survey at www.shastaforward.com.

Healthy Shasta is participating in this process because land use decisions can have a positive or negative effect on health. For instance, communities designed with health in mind offer neighborhoods within walking and biking distance to grocery stores, physician’s offices, civic/cultural amenities and restaurants. This incorporates physical activity into a daily routine which can help decrease obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
