Building on the success of the past two years, Healthy Shasta presents the 3rd annual Walk This Way at Turtle Bay! We’ve expanded this year’s event to include more activities – something fun for every age! Check back often as we’ll be updating this information as details are worked out!

Event Activities

FREE admission to Turtle Bay Exploration Park from 9 am to 1 pm

9 am - Walk This Way Kick-off featuring the Redding Rancheria Drummers (North end of Sundial Bridge)

9 am - Family Fun Walk with FREE t-shirts for kids while supplies last (North end of Sundial Bridge)

10:30 & noon - Penguin Paddlers Kayak Exhibition (Bridge Amphitheater – under Sundial Bridge on North side of the river)

10:30 & noon - Healthy Cooking Demo presented by Shasta College Culinary Arts and Nutrition Departments (Millhouse Deck in Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp)

11 am - Jump Rope & Comedy Show starring national jump rope champion and Cirque du Soleil performer Tarilyn Isenhart (Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp)

Audience members will learn the pretzel, cat and mouse, and the ever popular double-dutch in addition to seeing Tarilyn’s exhilarating solo performance. Don’t miss the fun!

11 am–1 pm - Live music by Majical (Turtle Bay Café)

11:45 am - Interactive Jump Rope Workshop (Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp)

Find a Golden Shoe and win a golden prize!


What: Find a Healthy Shasta Golden Shoes to win a prize worth $200 or more!

When: Golden Shoes will be hidden between September 15th and October 4th

Clues: All shoes are hidden in Shasta County in locations that support physical activity or healthy eating.

  • Reach for Saturn and you just might slide into a Golden Shoe. FOUND near the slide at Alta Mesa park, near Saturn Skyway.
  • In a magic house, where willow makes the walls, peek inside the doors and make yourself real tall. FOUND in the Lookout Tree at Turtle Bay Exploration Park’s gardens during the Walk This Way event.
  • If it gets too “baummy” along the Pacific Crest, take a dip in crystal clear waters and gaze skyward to find a Golden Shoe near an eagle’s nest. FOUND along the Pacific Crest Trail near Baum Lake and Crystal Lake.
  • Follow the map to find the gold. Bite into the fruit. You will be sold. Follow the farmers on Thursday. FOUND at the Farmers’ Market at Shasta District Fairgrounds (Anderson), which is held Thursdays from 7:30 am to noon.
  • Land a 720 at a park down South. FOUND at the skateboard park in Anderson.
  • Enjoy the terrific taste of Tuesdays with local farmers. FOUND at the Redding Certified Farmers Market, which runs on Tuesdays, 7:30 am to 12 noon, 1700 Churn Creek Road.
  • Just off the boulevard, “engle” your way for a nutritious good time and center your attention around the greens. FOUND in some green shrubs in Engle Park by the Shasta Senior Nutrition Site in Shasta Lake City.
  • Use your “energy” to explore a new trail starting near a famous Shasta landmark…before the second bridge. FOUND between the two foot bridges on the Upper Sacramento Ditch trail. This great new trail can be accessed just south of the Shasta Dam Visitor Center parking lot or at the end of Walker Mine Road.
  • Gold flowers, gold food, Gold Shoes, you never know what you will find on a Saturday morning. FOUND at the Saturday Redding Certified Farmers’ Market.
  • Take a walk between the river and “sunset,” cross many bridges and keep your eyes on the stumps. FOUND on the new Buenaventura Trail, which connects the Sacramento River Trail with Sunflower Drive (near intersection of Buenaventura and Eureka Way / Hwy 299.

For Schools & After-school Programs: Silver Shoe Package

New this year! Healthy Shasta is offering “Silver Shoe Packages” in September at no cost to schools and afterschool programs. We provide one Silver Shoe, a small prize and general guidelines for hiding it. In exchange we ask you to hide the shoe on campus and create a unique clue (students turn it in to the principal for a prize).
